The philosophy behind any research should not target industries… It should make way for imagination and a contentment for soul.
But today, a phenomenon called industrialization demands selling any (so called) research and make money out of it.
This has polluted the unique human behaviour of researching.
When compared to contentment of soul any application or tonnes and tonnes of money are equivalent to hairs on our heads!
Well hairs are important so are the applications… you are able to express your ideas to so many people (blogs) also is because of technology and its application which initially requires lot of research.
It is up to you whether you want to choose application research or fundamental research. There is no only one way of achieving contentment of soul.
It is because of drive for money or applications which has created environmental havoc in industries. This is the negative aspect. But it has also given solutions to epidemics, cross cultural interactions(in the form of travel) and tools if exploited properly can be beneficial to mankind from health to education.
So it is my view that, it is up to us how we want to use the technologies and applications – for the good or for the greed.
Ignoring technology and applications altogether is I feel an over reaction to the ill effects of it.
There is no data about any research philosophy has such even in ancient Indian texts. If it is there, please do put up some references on your blog for the benefit of the ignorant.
